The Mahabodhi Temple which literally means Great Awakening Temple is a Buddhist temple in Bodh Gaya,. Here Siddhartha Gautama, the Buddha, attained enlightenment. The holy Bodhi tree is next to the temple, to its western side. In the Pali Canon, this site is called Bodhimanda, and the monastery there is the Bodhimanda Vihara.
