Mount Bromo is an active volcano in East Java. A Majapahit princess Roro Anteng was said to have sacrificed her youngest child by throwing him into the crater in the fifteenth century after she had made a pledge to the Gods. The local people are said to have performed an annual ceremony for the child till this day.
