Whoever invented money, most certainly do not invent paper money. Paper money or banknotes were first used in China during the Song Dynasty and are known as "jiaozi". Paper money only came to be known to Europeans in the 13th century through the accounts of travelers like Marco Polo and William of Rubruck. Paper money during the Yuan Dynasty is the subject of a chapter of Marco Polo's book, The Travels of Marco Polo.
