It wasn't even a wedding dinner. We weren't even celebrating anything; just a normal get together dinner with colleagues but it was a lavish eight course dinner we had had. The appetizer; deep fried crispy fish skin served with ice plant vegetable itself was a promising start, followed by the eye-catching special stars surrounding the moon dish usually served first in a Chinese wedding dinner. Then, came the normal Chinese spinach in superior broth, the deep fried salted egg yolk mantis prawn, the garlic pork and steamed fish; all rather tasty but the vegetable dish was even better than the one I had the last time. The garlic pork was tender; a first for me for really all these while I've heard only of garlic bread. Then came the salted fish fried rice with a generous topping of salted fish on it and a bucket of surprise. There was a plate of prawns resting on some pebbles in the bucket and when the waiter opened the lid and poured in some water, steam emerged causing quite a stir. I suspected the pebbles were rather hot and the steam formed when they got in contact with the cold water.
