I remember a trip to Malacca specially to watch a live show. It was Mau Wei's idea and we were supposed to go with Swe Ling. Then, on the appointed day, the latter couldn't make it and a friend of Mau Wei from Sarawak went instead. On this particular trip, I made a special request for a nyonya lunch in a special restaurant which I've heard of, one where there were living fishes in an aquarium incorporated into the floor; which I suppose, means you would be walking on glasses and the fishes would be swimming below you. I am still wondering if there's such a restaurant. There was a traffic jam that day when we were entering the historical city. The restaurant would already be closed by the time we reached it; so, we opted for another family run restaurant instead where a fair-skinned, Chinese-looking proprietor spoke fluent Malay to his family members. Most certainly, that was a Peranakan Chinese family and our lunch was an authentic nyonya lunch. We topped that up by having nyonya curry laksa and cendol.
