Khao Yai has been described as a lush, mountainous landscape, with fertile valleys, pounding waterfalls and rich biodiversity and a year-round getaway. Lush and fertile; that we can see on our maiden visit. But it was terribly quiet where we stayed; just about my friends and I were the only people staying in our hotel and I had doubted if it was a year-round getaway. Then, the restaurant there was quite deserted; maybe there was another group of local travellers who stopped by to take a bite; and the staff couldn't speak a word of English and we had to resort to scrolling our smart phone for a photo of pineapple fried rice to order lunch.
