Local Chinese called it Indian noodles. So, had always thought it is an Indian dish; never mind that noodles has never been associated with the Indian continent but more to China or Italy; the latter two countries reportedly are laying claims to being its inventor. Then in the melting pot which is South East Asia, many new dishes have been created using ingredients from all over the world and Indian noodles otherwise known as mee rebus or boiled or braised noodles is commonly prepared and sold by local Indian Muslims as far as I remember. The local Chinese love the dish too; prepare and sell them too but I had thought they are just being copycats. But really, the Net has an article that says that mee rebus is actually an Indonesian noodle soup dish known in its home country as Mie kuah or noodle soup. The one I had for breakfast the other day was homemade with a delightful thick gravy which suggested a generous helping of dry shrimps.
