At the ancient town of the Yi People in
Chu Xiong, China; we wandered, looking for food. There were many stalls offering authentic Yi food, I'm sure. Yi people cook meat in large joints; and surprisingly, meats of dog, horse, snake, and frog are forbidden. At a little food stall, the cleaned carcass of a goat hung and at another bigger eating place, the crockery were laid on tables strewn with grass, an odd sight to unused eyes. The proprietor called us over and we sat at a table to enjoy some noodles, cooked mala style. Mala is a spicy and numbing flavour typical in Sichuan cuisine which comes about as a result of the Sichuan peppercorn, chili pepper and various spices simmered with oil. Suppose it won't go well with everyone.
Don't you think the noodles are a bit too oily?
