When the US embassy in Malaysia wished the local Chinese a happy New Year the other day, the ambassador had held a tray of apples, said to symbolise good health and happiness. Besides the must have sugarcanes, many types of fruits were offered in the thanksgiving prayer held at the stroke of midnight the other day, marking the beginning of the ninth day of the Chinese New Year.
