Chinese New Year Jiaozi

Jiaozi  餃子, ground meat or vegetable wrapped in dough look like gold ingots? Maybe they look more like ears but as gold ingots, they suggest prosperity and  Chinese eat these at midnight on Chinese New Year's Eve to bring them good fortune and riches in the coming year. Then of course, it is Chinese in the north who practise this custom. While Jiaozi has become popular even in the Western world, it would not be surprising that some Chinese in the south have not seen or tasted it. My first contact with Jiaozi was only recently when my other niece bought them from her acquaintance, a Mainlander from the north. The Jiaozi had meat fillings and was served with a black vinegar and sesame oil dip.
