Mention Kit Kat and a chocolate-covered wafer bar comes to mind. When Ah Heng came back from a holiday in Japan, he brought a gift of not the regular chocolate Kit Kat but one where the wafer was coated with green tea. Kit Kat green tea has less sugar and fat and is probably healthier. A few days later, Ah Heng flipped out a small packet of sour plum or what the locals called asam boi. He let me try one and quickly kept the rest. Japanese asam boi is very expensive, he said. It was seedless, round and flat like a fifty cents coin; very special indeed and at RM 6 for a little packet, it was indeed expensive!
