SMK St. George or St. George's Institution is one of the earliest missionary school in Taiping. The school was founded by La Salle brothers from Penang . In 1914, Brother James Byrne visited Taiping and suggested to the then British Resident of Perak for the establishment of a Catholic boys school. His request was approved and a piece of land was donated by the Kwa Family, one of the wealthy Chinese families of the town.
