Jakarta Historical Museum in Jakarta Old Town area used to be the former Stadhuis of Batavia, the seat of governor General of VOC. The Dutch East India Company was known as Vereenigde Oost-Indische Compagnie or VOC in Dutch. It was a trading company established in 1602, when the States-General of the Netherlands granted it monopoly to carry out colonial activities in Asia.
