Sometimes when you're travelling and have been in a foreign country for too long a time and yearn so much for food familiar to you, what do you do? Especially in countries like Europe, you may find food which suit your palate cost a bomb. In the 90s, I remember a plate of economy rice costs about RM 25, more than 5 times the local price; and a plate of fried koay teow in Amsterdam costs slightly over a hundred ringgit. While touring Great Britain last year, my friends were all well prepared. We packed along bakwa and instant noodles. Bakkwa, of course is 肉干, a Chinese salty-sweet dried meat. Instant noodles, some say are junk food, lacking nutrients; but add an egg and some vegetables and there you are; a balanced meal?
