Barely a week after coming home from Alor Setar, there was an invitation to a dinner. When dinner was served, I noticed at least two of the dishes were similar to the ones we had for lunch there; seaweed soup and a dark meat and salty fish dish which a friend called parangtao or something like that. Then, there was stir fried kai lan,a deep-fried Mantis shrimp dish which reeked of salted eggs,a sizzling hot plate tofu and two curry dishes; a sourish Assam fish curry and a salty fish curry, both of which reminded me of mom's curries...
