Start the day with a helping of Nian gao 年糕, the sticky sweet rice cake used to seal the Kitchen God's mouth on Chinese New Year to prevent him from badmouthing the family to the Jade Emperor. The Nian gao was covered with grated coconut; Filipinos, I read have it served this way too. They even have it covered with peanuts and may even eat it with ice cream and chocolate in the Filipino dessert called turon. Cool!
