De-facto National Dish

There were lots of chicken news recently. First, there was a ban on chicken exports to ensure sufficient supply in the domestic market. Local chicken farmers reportedly had cut down production due to the increase in costs of feed and fertilizer caused by the war in Ukraine.Then, Singapore reportedly sourced for chicken in Thailand and even faraway Australia and Brazil; and there was plan to open Asia's largest facility for lab-grown chicken meat in the little republic. Supplies of chicken are crucial for Singapore’s beloved de-facto national dish it was said, chicken and rice; de-facto, I suppose because chicken rice has never really been a dish which had its origin in Singapore; Chinese maybe,  especially when it is Hainanese chicken rice.  I had had my dose of a packed chicken rice from the market just the other day...
