(Pic taken in Pangkor Island, Perak, Malaysia. 2008)Pangkor Island is a popular holiday getaway in Perak. Historically, the island was a refuge for local fishermen, merchants and pirates. The Dutch built a fort there in the 17th century in an effort to control the Perak tin trade.

The ninth day of the New Year is an important day for Chinese especially Hokkiens who will offer thanksgiving prayers to the Emperor of Heaven. Sugarcanes would be used in the prayers as they had saved the Hokkiens from certain extermination generations ago.

There are Western gardens and Zen gardens and zoos are formerly called zoological garden. But gardens, planned or not, I suppose they bring joys when the plants are blooming!
