SMK St. George or St. George's Institution is one of the earliest missionary school in Taiping. The school was founded by La Salle brothers from Penang .In 1914, Brother James Byrne visited Taiping and suggested to the then British Resident of Perak for the establishment of a Catholic boys school. His request was approved and a piece of land was donated by the Kwa Family, one of the wealthy Chinese families of the town.
