Mukah is the heartland of Melanau. Melanau staying here have names very unlike the Malays of Peninsular Malaysia but differ in that some of them are not Muslims but Christians.The livelihood of Mukah people predominantly depends on the rivers, forest and ocean and presently the road leading to it from Sibu is in a terrible conditions with potholes all along the way.

The Sibu Tua Peh Kong Temple has an interesting past. On 8th March, 1928 whenSibu town was destroyed by a big fire, the temple was unscathed and in 1945, when the Allied Forices bombarded Sibu, the town and the temple were e destroyed but the state of the deity that is the statue of Tua Peh Kong remained unharmed. These incidents were considered miracles and probably made the temple popular.

Fruit Bats or Flying Foxes are the largest bats in the world. They live in the tropics and subtropics of Asia, Australia, Oceania islands and islands off East Africa. This limited distribution is due to their diet on nectar, blossom, pollen, and fruit.
